Heavy-rain alert declared for five Canary Islands from 7 November

What changed
The Canary Islands' emergency authority declared a heavy-rain alert beginning at 21:00 local time on 7 November 2026 for El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Storm Bruna may bring intense, persistent rainfall, including accumulations of 100 millimetres or more over 12 hours in parts of La Palma.
Does this affect me?
Travelers across the five islands, particularly those using mountain roads, ravines, low-water crossings and flood-prone areas, face increased risk from heavy rain and rapid runoff. Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Graciosa are subject to a lower-level rain prealert.
What should I do?
Reconsider ravine excursions and travel through flood-prone mountain areas during the alert. Avoid flooded roads and water crossings, monitor island-specific closures and follow updated instructions from emergency authorities. The alert does not itself confirm the closure of a particular transport service.
