What changed
The NSW Rural Fire Service declared total fire bans for the Greater Hunter and Upper Central West Plains fire-weather districts on Saturday 7 November 2026. Both districts have an extreme fire-danger rating for the day. Open fires and activities prohibited under total fire-ban rules are not permitted while the bans apply.
Does this affect me?
Travelers visiting the Greater Hunter and Upper Central West Plains districts of New South Wales on Saturday 7 November, particularly campers, bushwalkers and people planning outdoor cooking or other activities involving open fires. The affected districts include Newcastle, Maitland, Cessnock, Muswellbrook and Singleton in the Greater Hunter, and Bogan, Coonamble, Gilgandra and Warren council areas in the Upper Central West Plains. The declaration does not itself establish closures of any specific highway, national park or accommodation facility.
What should I do?
Do not light, maintain or use open fires or wood- and charcoal-fueled outdoor cooking equipment during the total fire ban. Check NSW Rural Fire Service rules and exemptions before using gas cooking appliances or undertaking other potentially fire-producing activities. Reassess plans for outdoor activities in bushfire-prone areas, monitor current fire warnings and follow directions from emergency services.
