Strong-wind alert covers La Palma and elevated areas of four Canary Islands

What changed

The Canary Islands' emergency authority declared a strong-wind alert beginning at 12:00 local time on 7 November 2026 for La Palma and specified elevated, northern and northwestern areas of El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Gusts may exceed 90 km/h in exposed areas on 8 November.

Does this affect me?

Travelers planning mountain hikes, exposed high-altitude road journeys, viewpoint visits or outdoor excursions in the named areas face hazardous winds. Other parts of the five islands are subject to a lower-level wind prealert.

What should I do?

Reconsider exposed mountain hikes and high-altitude excursions during the warning. Avoid areas vulnerable to falling branches or windborne debris and check local authorities for any road, trail or attraction restrictions before departure. No specific transport closure is confirmed by the wind alert itself.
